Overview
Sometimes an individual is in need of a program which intervenes in the early stages of the development of the addictive process. The individual does not require treatment but an opportunity to evaluate how their use of substances is causing harm and devise a plan to eliminate the likelihood of a larger problem developing. In such cases, it is not always the individual that determines that help is needed but another entity that has identified the problem and referred the individual for help.
A weekly program is offered for those who have been referred by an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), Court Probation or School. The program consists of weekly topics which will educate participants about the harmful effects of substances and how negative consequences can be a warning sign of a larger problem. Each educational session is followed by a group process session whereby participants are encouraged to apply the lesson to their own situation and evaluate their relationship to substances. Below is an outline of the program
Intake and Orientation
- Each participant attends an intake designed to screen for program appropriateness and participates in a brief assessment to determine the severity of the problem.
- The facilitator explores the participant’s needs in all areas of their life in order to reduce risk factors that tend to promote negative behaviors.
- Based on the assessment, a plan is created to address the participant’s individual needs.
- The participant attends an orientation to program policies and procedures.
Substance Abuse and Dependence Awareness Classes (SADAC)
- Classes are held once per week excepting Federal holidays whereby other arrangements may be made.
- Classes occur on weekday evenings. New classes begin based upon demand/availability.
- Each two hour session contains one hour of education information followed by one hour of group process.
Case Management
- Participants will meet with a case manager based upon individual needs
- These individual sessions provide an opportunity to privately discuss issues that may otherwise be avoided in groups and to evaluate the participant’s progress.
- Individual sessions are goal-oriented.
Drug Testing
- NCADA-BA has the ability to administer urine analysis (UA). Participants must self-pay for UA separately from their Diversion/EAP program.
- If required by the referral source, the participant will participate in random UA’s throughout the diversion program.
- NCADA-BA can administer alcohol breath analysis (Breathalyzer) as needed.
Reporting
- Progress reports are given to the participant and/or mailed to the court before each court date to let the probation officer and judge know what progress is being made.
- EAP progress reports will be forwarded to appropriate personnel within the corporation.
- The Program Coordinator maintains contact with the probation department, EAP or other referral source notifying them of participant progress.
